Milas Edgar Johnson autobiography

Scope and Contents

Typewritten excerpts of an autobiography. Johnson was born while his parents were migrating to Utah. He lived in numerous places including Fountain Green and Huntington, Utah. He states that he knew Black Hawk, recounts incidents with Ute Indians during the Black Hawk War, served as postmaster in Huntington, and was elected to the Utah state senate. The item was edited by family members who removed some material.

Scope and Contents This collection consists of biographies of Henrie family members, correspondence of Myra Mayall Henrie (d.1893), a Henrie family bulletin (June 1959), four photographs of Henrie family members, and biographies of Robert (1823- ), and Elizabeth Johnston (1825- ) by Alice J. Nielson. Nielson also wrote the biography of Amanda Bradley Henrie (1829-1903). Handwritten letters plus memorabilia glued into a bound book. The collection consists of a series of letters from Miller to Sir Walter Gilbey of London describing an extensive tour of North American from 5 May to 29 July 1876. Miller was joined by the American journalist, F. B. Thurber. Miller describes majory cities, Ute Indians, a visit with Colorado's governor, William Gelpin, and other aspects of the American West.
